Good ideas for creative short story writing?
helloi'm entering a short story contest 2500 words and less i'm doing it because well i get extra credit in class for it and i cna win some money which i really need so does anyone have any ideas for topics kinda have art writers block
Ahh short story writing :/?
Im not really sure at the moment how im going to get this into a story. But this is my idea. Im not so good at writing but its for school so iim giving it my best shot.Any constructive critism?Thanks DI wedged the heavy wooden door into place and moved back deeper into the old wardrobe. It was cosy in there compared to the breezy room surrounding it. My heartbeat increased and I felt proud for finding such a good hiding place. He will never look in here. The thunder rumbling in the distance and the rain pelting the thick glass windows made me feel safe in my little hideout . As time passed I started to wonder if he would ever find me, maybe I should just leap out and make him jump. I kicked at the door and it slowly started to open, but I closed it again when I heard footsteps and shouting. Here he comes, I thought. I waited as the shouting got louder but then I realised it was far too deep to be his voice. The thunder was becoming louder now, no longer in the distance but booming over the house like a parade of base drums. Suddenly the door to the room burst open tearing the thin green material on the back of the door. My dad staggered into the room with another man holding his neck. My legs shook, and I hugged my doll tightly as its glassy eyes stared at my face. Now my dad had the man against the back wall near the fire, the mysterious man seemed to be pleading but no mercy was shown.Dad kicked the man and he fell to the floor, grabbing a knife from his belt, my father raised it above his head. Suddenly a flash of lightning lit up the room and for a moment it was like a madman had replaced my dad. The light showed the creases of his skin and a look of pure evil as he brought the knife down in to the mans shoulder, narrowly missing his neck. This sudden attack seemed to give the man strength as he stood up clutching his injured shoulder and grabbed a candle . He pushed it forcefully into my dads hand causing him to give an agonising scream. The smell of burnt flesh was carried in the breeze from the open window, making me feel sick. Not being able to take any more I charged out of the wardrobe and smashed the man on the head with a candle holder pole. For a slight moment he looked shocked, and then his white eyes rolled into his head and he slumped onto the floor. The force of the blow had pushed him backwards and he fell down the stairs leaving nothing but a thin trail of blood on the dusty wooden floor.

I have a few pieces of writing I'd love to have read. I have never had anything published before,but I have had others read my work and they love it,constantly saying I should publish it. Anyway,does anybody know of a contest that allows short story writings? Preferably free,please. Thank you.
What does it take to be accepted in the newspaper for short story writing?

Can you give me your opinion? short story writing?
I'm writing a short story for the school competition max 4000 words and I have a bizarre idea that's quite original. can you tell me what you think?the main character is a girl who's younger sister died. the family cannot find their way back into life and get over it. the sibling takes shape of an innocent bird and finds the sister, and they escape through a window in the skies to a wonderful land where they watch their family and hometown and the world. the sibling tells the main character how she looks over them and brings them luck and everything and then the main character parts with her sibling forever. the themes would be love, devotion and hope. can you tell me your opinion and how i can improve?
Does short story writing get easier the more you do it ?
I've done a few and although I got quite good results, the process was a lot like pooing a breeze block. Does it get easier or could this indicate that it's not a natural bent for me ?
What are some good short story writing contests?
I don't know if this constitutes as a short story, but I have something that is 3,198 words a little more than 9 pages double spaced , and I really love it, and I'm wondering if there are any credible not something sketchy writing contests that would accept something of this length.
What the name of a short story written by famous Chicago writer?
I took an english class at Wright College about Chicago writers maybe five years ago and there was a short story about kids playing baseball in a field. they come across an object, pile of dirt with glove maybe? that is supposed to represent someone who used to play baseball. The larger meaning of that object was this person who knows nothing other than baseball continues to linger in the realm of baseball even though he is slowly being forgotten. May have something to do with ernie banks, but I am not sure. Any guidance would be appreciated and I do not remeber the name of of the writer. Could I make this any more difficult? ?

I wish I could remember more details about the story. It was definitely a short story, and not a novel. I am fairly certain that it was written in the 1940s or 1950s possibly later . The story focused on how peoples' lives were dominated by their need to consume products to meet quotas on consumption
